Startin' Early

I wore an orange Virginia shirt to school today. Within minutes of arriving a teeny-sized, barely 3-year old child came to me and said, "Are you going to the football game?" I told him, "Yeah, this is the shirt I wear to games." He ran away and came back to me shortly after. "Well," he said, "can I come with you?" I explained that the season hadn't started yet but maybe we'd see each other at a game. "U-V-A. Go. Hoos. Go," he chanted, tiny fist in the air.

But, I guess for the novelty of me being the new teacher at camp, they just stare as I sing the songs, mesmerized? I've learned not to be embarrassed. Especially today when one child said to me, "Ida, I love listening to you sing songs." Swoon.

Still, I was knocked off that high horse this afternoon when another child asked, "Miss Ida, how old are you?" I answered...(24). "24! Ha ha! That's too old for a girl to be teaching at this school!" But, when I sing....but....
