Collage

We had to make a collage to introduce ourselves to the group on the first day. I thought I'd add a picture of it. It's hanging on the wall in the hallway of the school outside of the room where we have our class.

Sunday Bloody Sunday

Got my haircut at the Haircuttery by a stylist who was so anxious to get me out of there.

"Blowdry? It's too hot; you don't want that."

"Cut more off? It looks fine."

And many more things to that likeness. He was also very insecure in his abilities and I asked me for confirmation over and over. Maybe he's had a lot of unhappy clients. Luckily I asked for a straight trim. Can't go wrong really. And, for a $19 haircut, I'm satisfied.

It rained and I watched Valerie's TiVoed episodes of Nip/Tuck. Entirely too much tv for one day, but I didn't have the drive for much else.

So, one day of class and then off for the 4th. Right now I'm trying to figure out the logistics for getting to Virginia Beach with Evan. I just do NOT know how this state is laid out. I need to take 4th grade Virginia history I guess.

My Saturday

I spent today about as lazy as it comes. This course is exhausting and I slept 14 hours last night! Then I spent the day watching t.v. I also watched Red Eye which came from Netflix. It was actually very good.

Right now I am watching Nip/Tuck for the first time. Valerie TiVos just about every hour of the day so I am catching up on shows I wouldn't otherwise watch. It is so gross! I had no idea the surgeries were shown so graphically! The storyline is full of drama though and that is my kinda show.

I did leave the house to go to Target and the grocery store. I bought a yoga video because I think that might help with my back problems. Just getting my muscles stretched should help a lot of discomfort anyway. They did have some car seat cushions and what-not, but I couldn't decide what would be best on my back. If anyone has a good suggestion, please let me know. The pain is in my mid-back from the driving.

I went to Trader Joe's to get groceries. Such an awesome grocery store! I wish they had one in Charlottesville. The produce wasn't as nice as at Whole Foods, but they have a great selection of frozen foods and it just seems perfect for people shopping for one.

I googled images of Maria Montessori. There are so many great ones! So I didn't do any homework, but I did think about Maria.

I am kicking back with Mynx and a glass of wine right now!

Good night, all.

Family shout-out

My cousins Mac and Katherine Smith just started a podcast:

catholicinasmalltown.com

I hope they send their 3-year old to a Montessori school!!

Oh, and to explain the connection:

Katherine's dad Wilder is my mom's first cousin. My granddaddy's sister, Leila, is Katherine's grandmother. I think that makes Katherine my second cousin. I think...! Phew! It is a big, big family!

Appalachia

On a side note, there are 31 women in the training group and we each have to choose a different culture to explore. And we have to tell them soon so they can make a list. That is why I didn't choose Ireland or the Netherlands or some other WASPy country of origin. I am not sure how the project works, but surely my supervising teacher next year has to approve so I guess it's not set in stone yet, right?
