Merry Christmas Eve!

I got tagged for a meme...by cho-girl. I didn't even know these things were called memes. But I like it. :)

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?

Egg nog, fo' sure. And with Bourbon. They are always putting rum in it in Jerz. My mom made homemade egg nog this year.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Not really under the tree as much as mine on the big chair and brother's on the couch, carefully laid out and assembled...like he does for all my cousins. Apparently to stay consistent.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
I prefer big, colored lights on the tree and white on the house. My mom has been putting white on the tree for the last couple of years. It hurts my eyes a little.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Not in my house, but I think it's fun.

5. When do you put your decorations up?

I have a wreath on my door that I put up last week. My mom decorated really early. We used to always get our tree the weekend before Christmas.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish?

Sausage balls. My mom makes them for Christmas breakfast...sausage, Bisquick and cheese.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child.

Presents under the tree from family shopping. And maybe the year we got Droopy.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I don't remember. But I do remember my mom not wanting to tell us the truth and we were in 6th grade.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas eve?

No! We used to go to a Christmas Eve party at our friends' house and open presents there. But now we are in Virginia.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?

Lights and ornaments. I would hang my ornaments and my mom and dad would go back and adjust. We always had a Santa on the top.

11. Snow! Love it or dread it?

Love it and especially how it kinda melts here now and requires little shoveling.

12. Can you ice skate?

Never took lessons, but I went a lot growing up.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?

My brother gave me pretty jewelry last year...but I like all gifts. Family shopping (see below) was always great.

14. What is the most important thing about the Holidays for you?

My family. My grandmother has a Christmas Eve birthday so the extended family has special memories.

15. What is your favorite Holiday dessert?

pecan pie...? I am not a huge dessert person.

16. What is your favorite Holiday tradition?

We used to go "family shopping." We'd all go to GSP, first Mama and brother and Daddy and me...and then we'd switch. By the end we'd have gifts for everyone. We'd get home and hide in separate rooms while we wrapped and then make a big to-do over putting the presents under the tree.

17. What tops your tree?

It was always a Santa, but we can't find an ornament box this year. At my mom's we have a little carol girl that my Aunt J sent. I'm not sure what my dad has on his tree.

18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving?

GIVING. I love it.

19. What is your favorite Christmas song?
Silver Bells

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?

Yum

And, Law-ra, you're it!

Oh the weather outside...

isn't really Christmas-y; I wore a fleece to Barracks Rd. today. But the Christmas wrapping paper all over my floor and the commercials on t.v. have me pretty ready for Tuesday.

Also, with the help of cho-girl, I got all of us ready for the Big Day.

Merry Christmas, y'all! (Our first Christmas in Virginia, you know.)

As ordered, twice.

First here, then here.

So here's me:

Ida likes to retell how one of the officers from the Bellevue fire station once asked what she was planning, and, when she told him, the two eyed each other...
Ida likes to hike, quilt, cook (eat!), fly her kite, and read.
Ida likes to speak to people about whom she knows as little as possible; without roles to fulfill (except, of course, the female one that she carries with ...
Ida likes to gather her pictures and put them in albums.
Ida likes to play house, dress up, color or play simple . ...

I thought the 6th sentence was worth showing:

“You’re right, Peter, but Ida likes to watch old guys running about. And they’re not all old guys.”

How true...

already over it

It's December 11th and I am over it. I felt pressure to put out Christmas crafts. We lit the menorah for 6 days and I friend latkes today. I was supposed to have the kids make wall hangings for their parents. Instead we are making ornaments. All it takes is glue and paper. I don't want to be as mean as the Grinch, but I'd like to steal Christmas and just make this December. Please.
